The mission of the Vanha Paukku Artist Residency is to provide each artist accepted into the program with a high-quality residency experience and a dedicated environment to advance their artistic practice within a tranquil setting.
The residency is operational two to three months per year. Information regarding open calls for applications is published on the ResArtis network website.
We invite practitioners from across the globe and from all artistic disciplines to apply. As a close-knit professional community, we aim to provide the stimuli and motivation necessary to foster both artistic development and holistic well-being.
WHO WE ARE
The Cultural Center Vanha Paukku is a arts and culture hub situated in the heart of Lapua.
Vanha Paukku represents a significant historical and environmental landmark, serving as a cradle for both cultural heritage and creative entrepreneurship. Located along the Lapua River, the center was established in 1997 within a repurposed industrial complex.
The site hosts an extensive array of facilities, including:
Multiple art galleries and museums
The municipal library and specialized boutiques
Corporate offices, dining establishments, and a cinema
A music institute, a center for adult education, and the “Lyijylankaosasto” creative community
During the summer months, a riverboat service offers excursions detailing the history and geography of the Lapua region. Established in 2015, the Vanha Paukku Artist Residency operates in close collaboration with the Lyijylankaosasto creative community.
ABOUT LAPUA
Lapua is a city of approximately 14 000 residents. Our community offers a serene atmosphere characterized by its proximity to the natural environment. We provide both domestic and international artists with a focused working environment and a tranquil residency experience. At Vanha Paukku, we provide the essential space and time required for creative excellence.
Transport and Accessibility
The city offers excellent rail connections to major urban centers in both Southern and Northern Finland, including Helsinki, Tampere, Oulu, and Rovaniemi.

HOUSING
The residency provides furnished apartment rentals for artists for the duration of their residency period nearby the Cultral Center Vanha Paukku.
WORKSPACE
The workspace is located at the Cultural Center in the Creative Community’s artist space. The workspace is shared with other artists. Our artists have 24h access to the studio.
The workspace has an internet connection (WiFi).
WHAT THE ARTIST SHOULD BRING?
Their own toiletries, specific cooking stuff they can’t live without. All necessary studio tools and supplies. If special tools are needed or difficult to bring, there are art stores cities nearby (Seinäjoki, Tampere).
ASUNNOT
Taiteilijaresidenssiä varten vuokraamme taiteilijalle kalustetun huoneiston residenssijaksoa varten. Asunto sijaitsee lähellä Kulttuurikeskus Vanhaa Paukkua.
TYÖTILAT
Taiteilijoiden työtilat sijaitsevat Kulttuurikeskus Vanha Paukussa, Luovan yhteisön Lyijylankaosasto-rakennuksessa. Työtilassa työskentelee myös muita taiteilijoita. Taiteilijoillamme on vapaa pääsy työtiloihin ympäri vuorokauden.
Työtilasta löytyy WiFi-yhteys.
MITÄ TAITEILIJAN KANNATTAA TUODA MUKANAAN?
Taiteilijan kannattaa tuoda mukanaan henkilökohtaiset hygieniatarvikkeet, erityiset ruuanlaittovälineet ja muut henkilökohtaiset tarvikkeet. Myös tarvittavat työskentelyvälineet, -tarvikkeet sekä materiaalit taiteilija hoitaa itse. Jos erityisten työskentelytarvikkeiden kuljetus Lapualle on mahdotonta, läheisistä kaupungeista löytyy taidekauppoja (Seinäjoki, Tampere).

Our residency offers artists an opportunity to take a hiatus from their daily routines and focus exclusively on the creation of new work. Lapua is a peaceful and secure city characterized by its spaciousness and beautiful natural surroundings. The residency program provides an ideal environment for artistic production—allowing for time and devotion—while offering an inspiring atmosphere enriched by a vibrant community.
Residency Fees
The residency fee includes accommodation and full access to our facilities. The program provides a shared studio space with 24-hour access, located within the creative community’s collective atelier in the heart of the Cultural Center.
The residency fee is approximately €350–€450 per month. (Please note that the exact fee is subject to the specific rental costs of the apartment).
AVOIMET HAUTVANHAN PAUKUN TAITEILIJARESIDENSSIIN
Taiteilijaresidenssi on avoinna 2-3 kk vuodessa. Avoinna olevat haut residenssiin julkaistaan ResArtis verkoston sivuilla.
Residenssimme tarjoaa taiteilijoille mahdollisuuden irrottautua arjesta ja keskittyä uuden taiteen luomiseen. Lapua on rauhallinen ja turvallinen kaupunki, jossa on tilaa ja kaunista luontoa. Residenssiohjelmamme tarjoaa taiteilijoille täydelliset puitteet tehdä taidetta ajan ja antaumuksen kera sekä nauttia luovasta ja inspiroivasta ympäristöstä upeiden ihmisten ympäröimänä.
Residenssimaksut
Residenssimaksu sisältää majoituksen sekä tilojemme käytön. Ohjelmaan kuuluu jaettu työtila, johon on 24 h pääsy. Työtila sijaitsee luovan yhteisön yhteisateljeessa Kulttuurikeskuksen sydämessä.
Residenssimaksu on noin 350-450 eur/ kuukaudelta. (Maksun suuruus riippu asunnon vuokran määrästä).

CULTURAL LIFE AND LEISURE IN LAPUA
The cultural landscape of Lapua is both rich and diverse. The Cultural Center Vanha Paukku, the Simpsiö ski resort, and the city’s various museums, galleries, and theaters—alongside a wide array of events, the municipal swimming hall, and sporting fixtures—ensure an active and engaging stay. For those seeking tranquility, the countryside’s panoramic vistas, the winding rivers, and the Simpsiö hill offer serene natural experiences for everyone.
The Cultural Center Vanha Paukku provides a continuous program of weekly concerts, lectures, films, theatrical performances, and exhibitions. Visitors can further immerse themselves in the arts at the Lapua Art Museum and the Patruuna Gallery.
To facilitate local travel, the Vanha Paukku Artist Residency provides artists with a bicycle for the duration of their stay. This allows for convenient exploration of the scenic riverside paths or excursions to the Simpsiö hill for hiking. Additionally, the residency organizes various workshops, community events, and artistic performances.

Vanhan Paukun taiteilijaresidenssi – Vanha Paukku Artist Residency
Tehtävänämme Vanhan Paukun taiteilijaresidenssin toiminnassa on tarjota jokaiselle residenssiohjelmaan hyväksytylle taiteilijalle laadukas residenssikokemus ja mahdollisuus edistää taiteellista työskentelyä rauhallisissa puitteissa.
Residenssimme on avoinna 2-3 kk vuodessa. Ilmoitamme avoinna olevista residenssihauista ResArtis verkoston verkkosivuilla.
Kutsumme taiteilijoita ympäri maailmaa kaikilta taiteen aloilta ja pyrimme tiiviinä yhteisönä tarjoamaan virikkeitä sekä motivaatiota taiteellisen työskentelyn ja henkisen hyvinvoinnin edistämisessä.
KEITÄ ME OLEMME
Kulttuurikeskus Vanha Paukku on taide- ja kulttuurikeskus Lapuan sydämessä
Kulttuurikeskus Vanha Paukku on sekä historialtaan että ympäristöltään merkittävä kulttuurin ja yrittäjyyden kehto. Kulttuurikeskus sijaitsee Lapuanjoen varrella vanhassa tehdaskeskittymässä, johon se rakennettiin vuonna 1997. Alueella on useita gallerioita ja museoita, kaupunginkirjasto, putiikkeja ja toimistoja sekä myös ravintoloita, elokuvateatteri, musiikkiopisto, kansalaisopisto ja Lyijylankaosaston luova yhteisö. Kesän aikana myös jokilaiva kuljettaa asiakkaita tutustumaan Lapuan ympäristöön ja historiaan. Vanhan Paukun taiteilijaresidenssin toiminta alkoi vuonna 2015 ja se on tiiviissä yhteiselossa Lyijylankaosaston luovan yhteisön toiminnan kanssa.
LAPUASTA
Lapua on noin 14 000 asukkaan kaupunki. Pienessä kaupungissamme on rauhallinen ilmapiiri ja meitä ympäröi kaunis luonto. Me tarjoamme kansainvälisille ja kotimaisille taiteilijoille työskentelyrauhaa sekä seesteistä kokemusta residenssiohjelmassamme. Meillä on tilaa ja aikaa luovuudelle.
